Family Home Brentwood

A narrow lot that faces North always presents a challenge. The clients were happy to have their living area out the front to enjoy the sunshine and to protect their privacy a gatehouse with intercom was erected to stop unwelcome visitors from entering the courtyard complete with swimming pool, alfresco dining and outdoor living area.  An office was incorporated at the rear of the garage so the self-employed electrician could run his business.

The home presented well and the clients reported that the orientation was a success with the living rooms enjoying winter sunshine pouring in.  Even the entry was designed with high glass to allow the winter sun entry.

Placing the courtyard at the front allows the full enjoyment of the north facing orientation but does create the issues of privacy and with the pool safety, that need to be addressed.
Tall sections of glass for the sliding doors from the family and dining rooms spilling out to the outdoor courtyard are achieved by adding fixed windows above.

Quite a Bali feel to the alfresco next to the dining room and overlooking the pool

Quite strong colouring by the client for the kitchen area.
And quite strong use of materials from the dark marble benchtop to the front facing use of zincalume mini orb to cover the bench wall facing the dining area.
