Classic Home belies it's age.

belie
bɪˈlʌɪ/
verb
3rd person present: belies
  1. 1.
(of an appearance) fail to give a true impression of (something).

So I guess that means it tells lies and if you were to drive passed this home you would be forgiven for thinking it must have been an original home in the area that had been nestled within planted estates that surrounded it and had surrendered the land for suburban creep.

Surely this home is not a similar age to the homes that share it's street now?

With rendered walls carefully chosen and applied to look like a Spanish villa of a previous century and simple but elegant detailing, this home exudes a classic and timeless style.  Tall glazed pairs of doors, tall parapet walls, large rough timber front doors all come together to show strength and commitment to a central theme.

Designed for and built by Fernihough Homes around 1990 for the daughter of a very prominent businessman and her husband and their young family.

Swanbourne Timeless Beauty

This lovely graceful home was one of my earlier triumphs around 1989, designed for and built by Fernihough Homes. An executive couple with a sloping site near the ocean wanted a generous and stylish family home.  The 2 storey was split into 2 levels which means each flight of stair lands you at another level.

Faux stone render finish, zincalume roof with bullnosed verandah, huge fanlight window over the entrance, timber frame windows... the list of quality is extensive.  The home was used in an advertising brochure for brick paving. I remember the ensuite with the spa in the huge bay window, the casual meals below in the same bay. The staircase with the wide plynth for war trophies.
The home now sits and ages gracefully amongst older and newer luxury homes and 'like an old wine seems to get better with time.

Spanish style in Cottesloe

An Investor had bought a property in Cottesloe with views to the ocean IF you got to the 3rd floor.  Back then it was fashionable to build shared walls so this villa type duplex home was built with a top open deck that caught the available views.  That the bricklayer shifted that top window out of line with the one below still urks me!  But otherwise it captured the Spanish Mediterranean style the client wanted.

Ye Grande Olde Home of a bygone era

A successful retired couple bought this wonderful property in Kallaroo at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac with it's back to elevated views over a park to the ocean and looked to build their dream home with a touch of a grand settlers cottage from a previous time.  With many details of homes built in the colonial era the home exudes charm and grace that echoes the owners.

A balcony to the rear of the upper floor enjoys the extensive views of both the park at the rear and the ocean views further out.

The location is such that they will never loose their views, can never be built out or blocked from enjoying their outlook.

One of the projects I created for Fernihough Homes, from memory for a client who was a professional Perth footballer and who won the lottery. (Anyone remember who that was?).  Unfortunately it never went ahead so never built. The client loved it but other matters caused the project to be halted. Perhaps a trade to the eastern states?  Perhaps he spent too much too quickly.   From memory the house budget was around half a million which quite a decent budget at the time.

The image itself is done by a local architectural artist.  I've edited the feature colour.  Unfortunately I don't have the plans anymore but it was a large 5 bed 3 bath family home with study, games room etc.

Here's the original image created by a fabulous water colour artist of the time Chris Nicolaides  who did a lot of the images for building companies at the time.  His moniker "C Nick" is seen on the image and he often added interesting cryptic number plates to the cars.  I believe this one says RURT2.   C Nick is obviously a play on Scenic.
