Cubic Diamond near the beach.

Every once in a while a designer gets that dream client.  Custom designed for an Amano Homes client, this project is someones dream to realise their cubic vision of precision with careful planning of every portion to create a stunning family home for a successful couple and their young children. With North to the street, the clients desired to take full advantage and so the design had to not only make space around the garage access but also get private secure access to the front entry.

Stone facing to a blade wall hung above the entrance to the undercroft garage makes a bold statement. As you walk to the entry, you will get a dramatic view of the stone as you walk passed, almost under.
The front yard will hold the swimming pool which checks under the balcony alfrecsco over.  The ground floor is raised to take best advantage of the outlook to a park across the road. Paving, decking and faux grass will fill out the front yard along with carefully placed gardens.
The double balcony keeps the solid square look. Gridded panelling balance the stone work and hide the verandah roof.   Two pyramid roof's add to the street interest with one providing light to the dramatic entry.

The staircase and entry form a dramatic introduction into the home and hence the importance of making a bold strong statement to establish the sense of place. The stair, timber straddling a central steel stringer launching off polished concrete floors and a rather than opting for one of the various balustrades, the clients jumped at the builder's suggestion of a vertical timber wall.  I just hope the shadows don't scare the children.
The living area is the hub of the home and the form is simplicity without embelish.  Concrete polished floors will be set off with rugs, classic furniture will garnish pure space.  Two sets of concertina doors open the living room to the living alfresco balcony with the bbq area down one end near stairs leading you down to the pool area.  Cubic architecture is simplicity but it's not easy to accomplish successfully.  Lots of work has gone into balancing each portion to form a home that will excite the senses and calm the nerves after a tough day.

The wonderful home is now well under way but there is still much to be completed.

Sweet Cottage in Victoria Park

The clients had a small space at the rear of an existing older house on a corner lot.  Opposite a major shopping centre but with North to the street, they had decided they wanted to put their living area with a large entertaining balcony up top facing the road with a courtyard below off a smaller living room.  Authority regulations limited the enclosure of the front fence but future planting will give them enough privacy at ground level.  A requirement to emulate the surrounding houses of the 1900-1940's meant the top was built in framework clad in lapped board cladding.  Windows had to be broken up, roof pitches steeper and rafter tails exposed.  However these all help make the home one of character to compliment the older homes surrounding. A garage door was not allowed to face the street however significant arguments were presented and approval was granted early in 2011 for the home to be built.

Completed late in 2012 and with the landscaping established, the home makes a sweet addition to the surrounding period homes of early 1900's.

Alfresco Success in South Perth

Just a small project but a very satisfying one.  A couple with a grand old federation home in South Perth required a proper outdoor entertaining area to compliment the house and the pool. I identified that the section of verandah they wanted to add next to was not original and rather than add on we replaced the narrow verandah (portion)with a large pyramid shaped alfresco area. Timber lined floors & a timber ceiling that followed the outside roof shape. Glazed pool fencing separated the area from the pool area for safety and the owners have a very livable outdoor room complete with BBQ facilities lining one wall.  An excellant outcome.

Narrow Lot challenge

Narrow lots bring their own challenges and this home with rear garage access will make a lovely contribution to the new homes being built in a recent subdivision in Ascot.   Built by Amano Homes and designed to suit a modern progressive family it makes a quietly strong statement to the streetscape but embraces a fresh open family home inside.  Playing on the Skillion roof idea with rendered walls and colorbond roof, the elevation hints at the sense of modernism within.

Hugging one boundary, home opens to the northern winter sunshine to make the best of our Perth climate.  Direct access from the rear garage to the kitchen makes bringing in the shopping easy and the home also boasts 2 main bedroom suites, one up and one downstairs.  This makes it easier to change as the families needs change from being close to young children to being able to live downstairs and leave the top floor for matured children.

This home nearing completion by Amano Homes.

Unit Development Armadale

Clients brief was for 4 home units that might suit retiree's as the area's market dictated but these units would also suit young upward couples or singles just as well. Just a courtyard for table and chairs and small automaticall reticulated gardens make these easy care homes.

Once the engineers report arrived it was decided to switch to framed construction to reduce the cost of footings and so the design became clad instead of face brick.
